As usual the boy of Dream Theater brought down the house last night. The show at the Fillmore Jackie Gleason Theater was no less than amazing. Out of all the shows I've been to this was the first show where they played "Surrounded". And the version they did was amazingly beautiful with a long, draatic lead in. John Petrucci was given the spotlight a number of times for complicated solos he pulled off with ease.
Instead of just performing without adding life to their performance, the screen backdrop videos added an exciting element to the show. The opening video showed the Dream Theater albums through the years. Videos during the performance were animated so show the guys being similar to anime characters. Near the end they did a video based on the song The Dark Eternal Night and called it "The Dark Nintendo Night".
This is the greatest band around. I have gone to 4-5 shows and each one has impressed me more than I ever thought possible. These guys are definitely a show band - among many other great and wonderful things.
I cannot wait for their next tour. And when I go I'm thinking I want to be front row.
