Of the 34 bands I have seen live in my concert-attending career (including the likes of All Time Low, Mayday parade, OK Go, the White Stripes, SANTANA, Plain White T's, The Academy is..., We the Kings, and Angels and Airwaves), Motion City Soundtrack is by FAR the best. Granted, it was not the best show I have seen because Person L and Chiodos were not a pleasant part of the evening, but Motion City and Hit the Lights made up for it.
MCS is not a hardcore rock band. Not even truly punk. The last two CD's have been much more pop than punk. And yet people go CRAZY at the concerts. I am so sore and bruised right now, with a big cut on my forehead where i got kicked repeatedly from crowdsurfers and from falling over, but that's fine. It was worth it. I couldn't breathe. I felt like I was about to pass out, but it was the best feeling in the world because MCS were right there in front of me playing my favorite songs.
And it was a great set. I don't recall the exact order, but they opened with Better Open the Door, My Favorite Accident, When You're Around, LG Fuad, Capital H, Antonia (by special request), It Had to Be You, Broken Heart, This Is For Real, Time Turned Fragile, Make Out Kids, Everything Is Alright, and for the encore the Future Freaks Me Out, Point of Extinction. Sadly, no Hold Me Down or A-Ok, but frankly, that was A-Ok too. All I could have wanted more of was I Am the Movie, but they made up for it with a lot from Commit This (I'm not a huge fan of Even if it kills me).
So, basically, this was the best deal for 21 dollars ever. My only complaint is the strange touring partners (Chiodos? Wtf?) and the poor acoustics at Lupo's.
