Updated 2008-07-03 14:57:00The show was total hardcore boogie/thrash at super high volume.Nashville Pussy impressed me-I didn't expect much-and I was blown away,a great time. Supersuckers,as always, rocked hard and have an awesome addition in Scotty Churillo on the drums. I thought I was gonna miss him in the Revs band-so it was cool to see him 1st in Supersuckers. The rev played the old favs[400 bucks ,Wiggle Stick,I can't Surf,Baddest Of The Bad,Bales Of Cocaine,It's Martini Time ,Big Little Baby,Callin In Twisted,Five O Ford,Big Sky,etc.]But besides that he did this string of covers that started with a song he says been told was possibly from the Rennassainse era written by King James the whatever. Any way the song Greensleeves Ive heard and loved the way Rev played it. Then he went to a song from the 50s the 60s the 70s[paranoid],80s Stray Cat cover-Rock this town,90s Yeah I forgot what those songs were -sue me,or Sue Jack Daniels whichever, which he didnt play.Played till after midnight and really gave us more than our monies worth . Next time around you gotta go see them for a good time. Stagger and Fall from San Fran really tore it up. Simmerhorn from Lockford followed definately worth listening to. Then outdoors for Nashville Pussy, Supersuckers, and The Rev. Could have enjoyed the show more had it not been for a few drunks not being able to handle their alcohol and moshpitting but you cant blame that on the Rev -he really got that place wound up and jumpin.Gotta go hey I got 0 friend ,nada, zilch but I dont care I had a great time.C-U
This was the first of many Rev. Horton Heat shows that I've seen. The venue was classic (it used to be a dance hall) and very suiting for the occasion. Nice and cool too. The show started with "Big Sky" of course (which at the time I had no idea) and there was a steady stream of RHH mainstays. During the middle there were covers and the best damn cover of "Ace of Spades" I've ever heard much less seen.
One part I remember vividly from the show was when one dame had the cajones to climb on top of her man's shoulders and Go topless during the show. After the song, Jim asked the crowd "What do you guys think of this?" and was answered with cat calls and howls. Then after getting the same response from the girls in the audience, shrugged it off and let the party keep on rolling.
During the last set of the show and the introductions of the band members confetti was released and it's amazing how cool shiny stuff looks when it's against the stage lights, which I haven't seen repeated in their shows yet. After the show Jimbo was on stage signing away ticket stubs and Paul was around to chitchat and shake hands. The Show was incredible and it shook the ground. If there's one thing you must do in Tulsa when the time is right, go see Reverend Horton Heat at Cain's, you won't regret it.
This show was actually part of a 2-day event, that being said RHH wasn't the main attraction (despite that on the website, his pic show-up first among other artists). The venue was held at the outside ampitheater and in the middle of May in Austin (plenty warm...). The show was a sight to see and the addition of Lee Rocker on bass was a plus as well. I'm not a pro at reviews for gigs, but after seeing 3 shows this year alone, I can say that they NEVER disappoint. Go, see them, get drunk on gin and tonic and THROW FURNITURE!
I was very disappointed in the fans. Throwing beer cans at the Rev is unacceptable! Sinners! I don't know if the crowd was more rowdy because of who the opening bands were...but this was one of my least favorite shows...not because of the band, I love The Heat...the fans sucked. Fighting is not cool, let's enjoy the music!
