I only had a handful of gripes about my day spent at Warped, and two of them were my own doing (having it pour and forgetting to bring something waterproof/forgetting to charge my camera). The others were mostly due to the rain - missing half of Gym Class Heroes' set, and having to choose Cobra Starship over The Bronx, when they were originally scheduled one after the other - but, one of the main things I found annoying was the layout of the stages. Of the other two Warped Tour dates I've been on, the right and left main stages have been next to each other so that, while a band was playing on one side, another could set up. At The Comcast Center, however, the Highway stage (main right) was set up next to the Hurley stage, while the Route 66 stage (main left) was set up about 50-75 feet away from main right, with a large, 25 ft fenced-in area between. Since most of the bands I wanted to see were on the main stages, I couldn't enjoy one band and then merely shift my attention to the next one playing - I had to situate myself on the outskirts of the crowd and then leave the set ten minutes early to ensure I had a good spot at the other stage, hoping I would be able to elbow my way through the crowd in time. Other than that location error, and the crowdsurfers (WHY?), I don't regret only sticking to my schedule (instead of, say, checking out bands unknown to me) at all, and my faith in the Comcast Center has been restored (fatal lawn seats and getting lost on the highway [and missing Cobra's set] during Honda Civic Tour 2007). Points for all the thrash bands, too! That was certainly a nice addition.
rain rain go away come again not while i'm outside trying to have fun.
was alright but we left early due to rain.
also we had backstage access and the whole reason I went was in hopes of meeting Max Bemis of Say Anything, but of course he hightailed it to his bus after the set :
Overall, it was a pretty great day. Wasn't too hot, and it only downpoured once.
The main things that annoyed me were pushy fans trying to take my front row spot during The Academy Is... and the fact that you needed a mark/stamp on your hand to get into some of the signings (Cobra Starship and All Time Low).
Still, we did meet some great band members, and at the end of the day, I was sad to have to leave.
Updated 2008-07-24 07:48:05not even the rain could dampen my first warped experience
greeley estates was awesome along with four year strong, set your goals, story of the year, norma jean and confide.
i was a little disapointed that they ended the last set of the night 20 mins early.they were being a little to cautious.
Warped tour 2008 was pretty good. I was pretty upset from the beginning because our tickets said the show started at 1pm, and bands were already on when we got there around 1145. Due to that, i missed one of my favorite bands Just Surrender :( Other than that Against Me and Anberlin who i saw next made up for my un-happiness. The main stages were weird too, and i had to leave minutes early to see another band or vise versa. I never got a good spot either, so i couldn't take any good pictures or videos. One thing that really bothered me was how people kept running through everyone and throwing shoes, full bottles, and cds at people in the crowd.
The rain sucked! The first time it started raining, I was waiting for Story of the Year to play. Then someone came over the mic and told everyone to head towards the main area or the cars since it started lightining. When it all cleared up, I was late to Story of the year, since I had no idea when the bands would start back up again. Relient k cut their set short due to the rain, which was so dumb. Then it started raining again when angels and Ariwaves started playing, which I left for since my boyfriend and I were both freezing.
I remember when Warped Tour was all good bands, all punk bands. now if i want to see the Warped Tour that's worth seeing, i would have to travel to California to see GBH, The Dollyrots and a slew of other REAL punk bands. There was a few bands worth seeing this year, Street Dogs, The Briggs, Bouncing Souls, Evergreen Terrace, Longway, Horrorpops, Pennywise, TAT, Reel Big Fish and a few others...It just bothers me and the bands i talked to, such as the briggs, street dogs, and longway that the Warped tour used to be mostly punk and now its all screamo scene bands. I think if theyre going to have a vast genre of music then they should have genre stages instead of main stages. honestly, they shouldnt have Katy Perry or whatever the hell her name is playing on the same stage as punk bands. the stages should be separated by punk stage (smart punk stage had no REAL punk bands play it...stupid), pop-punk stage, reggae stage, emo/screamo stage and then the little stages like ernie ball. If they separated the stages like that then I wouldn't of had to choose Street Dogs over the Bouncing Souls. It was still a great day, except for the trouble trying to plow through over-rated bands 10 year old fans waiting to ask them to marry them. They good thing about Warped having horrible, over-rated bands play is that it takes away from the real punk bands fan lines so its easy to hang out with. I hate how fans have to pay or get stamped or whatever to meet bands like All Time Low, AVA and others... all the bands I like were cool and just hung out at their merch tents for most of the time and would sign anything without even asking you to buy something, although i did. Who knows though, maybe someday theyre will be another tour that is old school and has punk and hardcore bands, or maybe vans will just separate the genres and have two different tours. Good day all in all.
This was my first Warped Tour experience and even though it was a very wet one it was also one of the most awesome music festivals I've ever been to. There were a lot of great artists there but I have to say I was so stoked to finally catch Four Year Strong who got to play for an extra 10 mins! Cobra Starship and Mayday Parade were also great to watch and they had some of the biggest audiences.
Can't wait until next year, let's just hope it doesn't chuck down with rain again!
It was amazing, rain and all.
I wish it wasn't so confusing and I wished that I could have seen Forever The Sickest Kids, but otherwise, it was the best day of my life :]
It was great the rain really didn't do much just ruined my camera making it so i couldn't get pictures of cobra and tai
It was AMAZING! All the bands were top notch, including Madina Lake :]. When they were about to come on, a bunch of people went into the pavillion to seek shelter from the rain. So Madina Lake got some publicity. During their set the pavillion was flooding! And I was right in front of the smartpunk stage. There was about nine inches of water in the very front of the pit closest to the stage. There were flood and tornado warnings xD. But that didn't stop me from having one of the best days of my life. Can't wait till next year :].
the warped tour was awesome. it was everything i expec ted and so much more. even though it rained and downpoured it was still a huge blast definitely the best concert i've ever been to.
Great show. Rain sucked. Lightning made us leave at the end....I've been multiple times and this time brought my teenagers and their friends. They loved it! Can't wait till they can drive me....
Nonstop hammer down! Does the Blond guy on stage with Family Force 5 play an instrument or sing or does he just dance? Street Dogs ripped (I apologize for wearing the Yankee hat in the middle of the Red Sox Nation) Tell the driver for Beat Union that he was in Mansfield and went to Darien Lakes the next night, he didn't quite know where he was or where he was going. The rain broke things up right in the middle of Angels & Airwaves, right after Pennywise, nice end to a great day.
i had a lot of fun for my first time at warped :) i got to see all teh bands i went for (except bring me the horizon :( and a few others.) i don't understand why they scheduled some of the best bands to play at the beginning, especially since most people thought it started at 1 instead of 11 anyway. oh well, i really don't have any complaints. i didn't mind the rain, it cooled me down.
Yo if you were afraid of the rain your being such a pussy. I think the rain added the perfect touch to the whole tour. Yeah so you had to wait another half hour to see From First to Last omfg. I came back from my car and saw Story of the Year and it was fucking bomb, along with that circlepit in the shit smelling puddle.
I loved every minute of it, I left after Four Year Strong because I didnt want to wait 2 hours in traffic after Angels and Airwaves like my friends did, haha.
All in all, great warped tour.
And can I say how amazing SYG&FYS's set were? AMAZING.
I personally thought that the rain made it totally epic. It did kinda suck that some of the bands had to cut their sets short because of it... My only main problem was the band line up. Some of the bands were pretty good - but nothing compared to last year. Also, crowd surfers were crazy this year. Two of my friends were knocked out for a bit being hit in the head but it's not really something we can work on, is it? That's fine though - it was awesomely epic.
Without rain, I'm sure the whole thing would have been better, but it must have been a great break for all the bands performing that are always in the hot heat, so I bet that made for a fun filled day. If I had been able to attend this like I was suppose to, my friend who lives in CT, she and I would have been in a car for 5 hours, she however had to travel it without me, but said it was still worth it all in the end, I guess it doesn't matter the distance, or weather circumstances, when it comes to seeing your favorite bands all in one day, eh? So according to her it was a great day, so I'm going to go with her, and say that it was a great time.
1st warped for me; really fun, even with the rain. bamboozle was better though in my opinon.
