This was the first of many Rev. Horton Heat shows that I've seen. The venue was classic (it used to be a dance hall) and very suiting for the occasion. Nice and cool too. The show started with "Big Sky" of course (which at the time I had no idea) and there was a steady stream of RHH mainstays. During the middle there were covers and the best damn cover of "Ace of Spades" I've ever heard much less seen.
One part I remember vividly from the show was when one dame had the cajones to climb on top of her man's shoulders and Go topless during the show. After the song, Jim asked the crowd "What do you guys think of this?" and was answered with cat calls and howls. Then after getting the same response from the girls in the audience, shrugged it off and let the party keep on rolling.
During the last set of the show and the introductions of the band members confetti was released and it's amazing how cool shiny stuff looks when it's against the stage lights, which I haven't seen repeated in their shows yet. After the show Jimbo was on stage signing away ticket stubs and Paul was around to chitchat and shake hands. The Show was incredible and it shook the ground. If there's one thing you must do in Tulsa when the time is right, go see Reverend Horton Heat at Cain's, you won't regret it.
This show was actually part of a 2-day event, that being said RHH wasn't the main attraction (despite that on the website, his pic show-up first among other artists). The venue was held at the outside ampitheater and in the middle of May in Austin (plenty warm...). The show was a sight to see and the addition of Lee Rocker on bass was a plus as well. I'm not a pro at reviews for gigs, but after seeing 3 shows this year alone, I can say that they NEVER disappoint. Go, see them, get drunk on gin and tonic and THROW FURNITURE!
